Cleaning the “garbage mountain”
The Municipal Solid Waste Landfill was located along the Keelung River in Lu Zhou Li, Neihu area, Taipei. It had been in operation from 1960 to 1985. The dumped waste occupied part of the river, reducing its cross section area, contaminating the water and prompting the Taipei City Government to initiate this project.
2.2 million m3 waste and soil removed
About 2,230,000 cubic meters of waste and soil were excavated and removed from the 15 hectare area. The direction of excavation was from top to down. The waste was treated on site and sorted by trommel screen as recyclable, masonry and combustible materials. The waste treatment site was completed in 2 phases, due to the work area restrictions at the start of the reclamation.
