Rebuilding classrooms for students after the 1999 earthquake

Two years after the catastrophic 921 Chi-Chi Earthquake which struck Central Taiwan on September 21st 1999, students of the 22 damaged primary and junior high schools in Yunlin County, Chiayi County, Chiayi City, Tainan County and Tainan City were back to their classrooms in brand new buildings. In these reconstruction projects, MAA Taiwan was employed by the Ministry of Education to provide project/construction management services including program development, selection of architects, construction tender process, contract management and quality assurance.

Grateful schools

The biggest challenge for the project manager was the huge amount of work to be completed within a tight schedule, with over 164,000 m2 of floor area affected at scattered sites in the region. Nevertheless, all difficulties were overcome by careful planning, intensive coordination and the teamwork established among all relevant parties. Certificates of Appreciation from the schools administration flooded the mailbox of MAA Taiwan due to its excellent performance in project management service.
