Mitigating high speed train vibrations for high-tech industries

Taiwan High Speed Rail trains pass through the Tainan Science Based Industrial Park. In order to mitigate the vibration effect on high-tech manufactures such as semiconductor foundries, the National Science Council and the Bureau of Tainan Science Industrial Park have hired Sheus Technologies Corporation to execute a turnkey-type vibration mitigation project.

An innovative mitigation method

After intensive analysis and field test/demonstration, a hybrid mitigation method combining foundation stiffeners and a slurry wall back filled with elastic material was adopted. Under a 3 Hz harmonic force, the method decreases noise by 16.7 dB at 50 m, 12.4 dB at 200 m and 7 dB at 600 m from the vibration source. MAA was hired by the contractor to provide civil works detailed design and construction management services. The vibration analysis and mitigation design were carried out by the contractor.

Scope of work

  • Detailed design of stiffener blocks from Taiwan High Speed Rail Chainage TK 290+572 to 295+548
  • Detailed design of 4.12 km slurry wall with elastic material backfill
  • Underground water impact analysis
  • Safety assessment of the Taiwan High Speed Rail infrastructures
  • Construction management services
