From at grade rail station to elevated MRT station

In order to create a fast and convenient commuter rail system between Kaohsiung and Chaojhou, a plan was proposed to turn the single track non-electrified section between Pingtung and Chaojhou into a double track electrified system. The project is due for completion in Dec. 2014. Upon completion, the commuting time between Kaohsiung and Pingtung or Chaojhou will be shortened to 35 to 45 minutes. In addition, travel time to central and northern Taiwan will be reduced. This project will also eliminate 20 railway crossings.

Chaojhou Coach Yard

To facilitate the Kaohsiung Railway Underground Project, it is a priority to move the depot and vehicle inspection division which is now east of Kaohsiung Station. The new service base, which has a total area of 34.67 hectares, is located 1.9 km south of Chaojhou.
