Increasing traffic at a major tourism destination

MAA and Design 103 were chosen by Airports of Thailand to provide design services for a new 93,500 sqm terminal for Phuket Airport, with 52,000 sqm for international flights and 41,500 sqm for domestic flights. The 5.7-billion-baht expansion will entail a new passenger terminal capable of handling 6 million passengers a year, 10 more aircraft aprons from the present 15 and a five-storey car park for 1,000 vehicles.

When finished, the overall airport will process 12.5 million passengers a year, the expected capacity at the time of completion, doubling the current airport capacity and allowing it to handle a 15-20% increase in tourist traffic every year, in particular from Russia and China. The construction itself was awarded to Sino-Thai, with a completion date in 2015.
