Increasing the speed of trains on the Hofuf-Riyadh line bridges
The current Railway Line No.1 in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is a passenger and freight dedicated railway line, operating at a speed of 120 km/hr with an axial load of 25 ton/axis. The Client, Saudi Arabia Organization, planned to upgrade the railway line by increasing the passenger trains to 250 km/hr with the same axial load and increasing the freight trains axial load to 32.5 ton/axis while maintaining the speed at 120 km/hr.
Assessing the safety of existing bridges and designing new ones
The Saudi Arabia Organization invited consultants to perform the safety assessment and redesign of existing bridges between Riyadh and Hofuf as the first phase of the upgrading process. MDEC-MAA (Modern Design & Engineering Consulting – Moh & Associates, Inc.) Joint Venture was successfully engaged to provide the required assessment and redesign services
Scope of work
- Evaluation of the capacity and safety of four existing bridges (146.463 km, 426.617 km, 434.887 km, 446.295 km) for Railway Line No.1, between Riyadh and Hofuf
- Design of two new parallel bridges (146.463 km, 426.617 km) for Railway Line No.1
- Evaluation of Sleeper B70
