A scenic landmark for Su’ao

Due to the height limits of the original bridge across Su’ao fishing port and Dofu Cape, many large fishing boats were unable to pass under the bridge. In order to solve the problem, the Yilan County Government decided to replace the old bridge by a new steel arched bridge.

The second single hybrid arch/cable type steel bridge in the world

The Nanfang Au Bridge is the only bridge in Taiwan that consists of a single-span arch skeleton with cables supporting the 14 m wide orthotropic steel deck. The bridge spans 140 m with an 18 m height clearance to allow larger boats to enter the harbor. The bridge’s unique silhouette was designed to reflect the shapes of prawns and crabs. It is also the second single hybrid arch/cable type steel bridge in the world.
