A landmark in high rise construction in Taiwan

Shin Kong Life Tower is the third highest building in Taiwan, standing at 51 stories (244 m) high. It was the tallest building in Taiwan when it was built. The rose-colored skyscraper topped by a pyramid is a landmark in Taipei. Its first twelve floors and two underground floors house a Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store. The remaining floors provide office space and serve as headquarters for the Shin Kong Life Insurance Company. The structure stands across Chunghsiao Road from Taipei Main Station near the Asiaworld Department Store.

Space limitations and heavy traffic at the site made the task a challenge. The architects created a 1,170 sqm plaza around the tower by setting the front of the building 31 m back from the street and setting other sides back to allow wide pedestrian walkways. Inspectors from MAA were consulted to help ensure the building's stability during earthquakes. Aluminum is used for the exterior of the building for easy maintenance during different weather condition.
